Even though Meralco Electric Co. (Meralco) has just announced that your electric bill by the end of this month will be lower by 13 centavos per kilowatt hour compared to the previous month, how would you like to even further reduce your electricity consumption at home?

Your lighting at home typically makes up about 20 percent of your monthly electric bill.  According to Philips Philippines, converting to light-emitting diodes or LED lights, which are more energy efficient compared to traditional incandescent bulbs, is one way to make that happen.

Christine Villanueva, marketing manager for Philips said, “45 percent of energy in the Philippines is lost to old and inefficient lighting. While this is a staggeringly high number, ordinary consumers can do their part in curbing power consumption.

“Making the switch to LED lighting could be that first big step.”

LED lights have a longer lifespan compared to compact fluorescent lamps (CFL) and are more environment friendly.

LED lights also have zero ultraviolet emissions; come in different shapes and sizes; and can handle extremely cold or hot temperature conditions.
