Manila, Philippines—The Metro Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MMDRRMC), Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and Office of Civil Defense (OCD) are encouraging the public to join the second Metro Manila ShakeDrill (#MMShakeDrill) on Wednesday, June 22, 2016, at 9 a.m. The metro-wide earthquake drill aims to prepare residents for a possible 7.2 magnitude movement of the West Valley Fault, which runs through Quezon City, Marikina, Pasig, Makati, Paranaque, Taguig, and Muntinlupa.

On June 22 at 9 a.m. various radio stations, local government offices, churches, schools, and private firms, will be sounding the earthquake alarm, which signals the start of the drill.  Everyone at home, office, school, or even on the road can participate in the drill by doing the “duck, cover, and hold on” method of personal protection during earthquakes.

Drill participants may share their “duck, cover, and hold on” photos on Twitter with #MMShakeDrill.

The first Metro Manila ShakeDrill was successfully conducted last year, July 30; 6.5 million people participated.
