Manila, Philippines—Following a successful summer campaign, where Ayala Land’s Ayala Malls (Market! Market!, Greenbelt, Alabang Town Center, Trinoma, Fairview Terraces, and Ayala Center Cebu) enlivened their garden spaces with beautiful orchids, native ferns, and evergreens, Ayala Malls are now into the next phase of their green campaign: planting their own organic herb and vegetable gardens.

These gardens were built from recycled materials and boast a variety of green produce including bokchoi, lettuce, sweet pepper, tomato, red lettuce, arugula, romaine, mustard, patola, chili pepper, upo, okra, pechay, kangkong, Baguio beans, sitaw, and cucumber, and herbs such as basil, rosemary, mint, tarragon, and oregano.

Ayala Malls Organic GardensIn a statement, Ayala Malls reiterated that these gardens do not only help to beautify the Ayala Malls’ open grounds, but they also aim to educate the public on how to become more conscientious consumers.

“[The] Ayala Malls have been actively and continuously improving their immediate environment by growing and enriching their gardens and parks while encouraging their communities to adopt an environmentally-focused mindset,” said Myrna Fernandez, vice president and head of leasing and operations.

“Our primary objective is to educate the community and inspire them to start their own organic gardens at home. We are changing the concept of ‘farming,’ which is no longer limited to suburban areas or farmlands. People can grow their own herbs and vegetables by converting their unused spaces into one productive and edible garden,” she said.
