Manila, Philippines–Online marketplace PropertyAsia.ph, together with FilipinoArt.ph and The Craft Central, recently hosted a summer-themed art contest titled “Dream Summer Home,” which caught the interest of nearly 50 young visual artists across the Philippines—from Isabela of the North down to Leyte in the Visayas.

The art contest aimed at encouraging our Filipino artists to freely draw or paint on a “canvas” of their choice what their “dream summer home” looks like–and they all look dreamlike and nothing short of amazing!

However, only three lucky entries won the top prizes, which The Craft Central and PropertyAsia.ph have allotted for these promising artists. Below, our three winners Shahana Mationg of Cavite, Michael Tejara of Leyte, and Choi Corsino of Isabela gamely talk about their creative inspirations and how they came out with their “dream summer homes.”

Shahana’s “Floating Villa”

“I always dream of building and having my own resthouse where I can enjoy the peaceful and soothing vibe of the seaside. And since I love nature and marine life, I thought of combining both in the design of my summer dream house. I also got inspired when I saw the underwater rooms of the Maldives, which allow you to view the marine life in your bedtime.

My floating-underwater villa’s architectural design is a combination of modern and classic vibe, particularly because of its colors and atrium, which serve as a house garden. I think this house is perfect for those who enjoy the calming sea breeze more than the city lights.”

Michael’s “PH Resthouse”

“To be able to attract an audience to my art inspired me to join this art contest in the first place; besides the fact that I also wanted to share what my dream home is.

In designing my entry, I was inspired by the phrase “Raise Our Flag.”  As a Filipino, I believe we are unique in our very own way, thus my unusual Philippine Flag-inspired house came about.”

Choi’s “eKubo”

“My “eKubo” (eco-friendly house) was inspired by our traditional Philippine House, the Bahay Kubo, and Philippine Island groups of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.  The first floor made of stones represents Luzon; the second floor’s woven bamboo represents the Visayas, and its ethnic-inspired roof is an homage to the T’boli people of Southern Mindanao. The whole house uses solar power as a source of electricity, which reminds us of the incredible benefits of natural energy.”

Their artworks bested the other entries based on their originality and creativity, style and technique, appropriateness to the theme, and overall impression.

Thank you to all who joined our summer-themed art contest, and a huge congratulations to our three winners!
